KOTA KINABALU, May 12 (Bernama) -- About 1,200 hardcore poor families from
several districts in Sabah have received aid from Petronas under its corporate
social responsibility (CSR) programme.
They are among 5,000 families nationwide who get monthly food supplies for
two years under the programme dubbed ''Sentuhan Harapan'' which began last year,
said Petronas Sabah and Labuan regional office general manager Joseph Podtung.
"The family members involved are also given training in family finance,
healthcare and childcare.
"They are equipped with basic knowledge to enable them to earn extra income
for the family," he said in a statement issued at the Petronas'' ''Sentuhan Kasih''
programme in conjunction with the Kaamatan festival in Inanam here, today.
As Petronas supports the government''s effort to improve the quality of life
of the people, he said Petronas had been extending aid to needy families during
Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Kaamatan festivals since 2005.
At the function, Inanam assemblyman Datuk Johnny Goh Chin Lok presented
stoves and cooking gas cylinders to 100 families from various ethnic groups.
