ALOR SETAR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Sixteen low-cost house buyers lodged a
police report claiming they were cheated by an agent since the part two years
ago.
A victim known as Choo said in the mid-March last year, he had applied to
purchase a low-cost house through a woman in Alor Setar and paid RM2,000 as
deposit.
"The woman said that the low-cost houses will be build behind the Tesco
hypermarket in Mergong worth RM98,000 and construction will begin early Dec,
2011.
"I paid RM2,000 as deposit outside the court and she (the woman) promised to
send a receipt after six months of the payment," he told reporters here today.
Choo said after two months she had received an approval letter from the
State Housing Department.
"I contacted the woman and head of the agent after the approval letter but
they gave various excuses. I went to the site and found that there was no space
for a low-cost housing project," she said, adding that they had never seen the
actual plan of the house.
Meanwhile, Derga state assemblyman Dr Cheah Soon Hai said he had contacted
the State Housing exco (Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah) but was told that the state
government had not carried out any housing project in the area.
