PETALING JAYA, June 9 (Bernama) - The 1Pengguna portal (www.1pengguna.com)

displaying the price of goods sold at 1,255 premises received 3.5mil hits since

launching two days ago.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail

Sabri Yaakob said the high number of hits had put down the server.

"The portal used to be under one system but we have to divide it to

accommodate the high number of hits received.

"However, things have returned to normal," he said after launching the

Retail Academy at Maktab Kerjasama Malaysia today.

The ministry expects the portal to receive only 300,000 hits in the first

week of operation.

Ismail pledged to improve weaknesses adding initially, consumers would find

difficulty accessing the portal and also lack of information.

The portal displays the price of 355 types of goods sold at hypermarkets,

100 types at supermarkets, 50 types at wet markets 100 types at convenient

stores.

The price of goods are updated daily. First phase development of the portal

cost RM1.4mil.

ISMAIL-PORTAL 2 PETALING JAYA

On criticism that he was chatting on the website, Ismail regretted that

some people had used the portal meant to monitor the price of goods to slam the

ministry.

He said some even alleged that the portal job was awarded without tender

called and that RM1.4mil was too high a price.

"The chat yesterday was just a waste of time as it was meant for me to

exchange views on consumerism issues. Instead I sat for one hour to explain that

the portal job was awarded properly.

"The portal was developed according to normal procedures by calling for

tender via newspaper advertisements, selection was done by the tender selection

committee and the best company was selected," he added.
