KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Four dengue-related deaths in Selangor,
Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, and 545 cases nationwide were reported between Jan 29
and Feb 4, this year.
The figures indicated an increase of 57 cases or 12 per cent as compared to
the previous week which recorded two deaths and 488 cases, said Health
director-general Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman.
He said six states showed an increase in dengue cases as compared to the
previous week, whereby Selangor recorded 20 cases (nine percent), Kedah (19
cases or 238 per cent), Kelantan (16 cases or 114 per cent), Sarawak (15 cases
or 115 per cent), Johor (12 cases or 57 per cent) and Perlis recorded one case
or 50 per cent.
"Four dengue-related deaths were reported last week, involving two cases
in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah," he said in a statement here
today.
Dr Hassan said, from Jan 1 to Feb 4, this year, a total of 2,413 dengue
cases were reported, with 10 dengue-related deaths.
The states which recorded the deaths were Selangor (five), followed by three
in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, while Sabah and Negeri Sembilan recorded a death
each.
During the same period last year, there were 2,457 dengue cases and five
deaths.
