Additional 10kg luggage allowance for all SQ passengers

Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced today  that all passengers on Singapore Airlines and Silkair flights will be allowed to check in an additional 10K in baggage starting November 15.

“Increasing baggage allowances across all classes of travel is in response to feedback from our customers,” stated Mr Chin Yau Seng, SIA senior vice president for sales and marketing, “and reaffirms our commitment to constantly enhancing customer service.”

The new luggage allowance will now be:

-    Economy Class: 30kg (up from 20kg)
-    Business Class: 40kg (up from 30kg)
-    First Class and Suites Class: 50kg (up from 40kg)

For Suites, First Class and Business Class passengers flying and returning to US destinations on SQ, the per-piece allowance will now be: 32kg (up from 23kg).

The airline also announced that it will introduce a redesigned website in 2014, after a revamp of its online portal in May 2011 resulted in glitches and prompted an apology from the airline.

Users had complained that they had difficulty booking tickets and accessing online services, which resulted with the CEO apologizing to customers in an email.

According to Goh Choon Phong, who was appointed the group’s CEO in 2011, the revamped site will be more intuitive and easier for users.
