ADTRAN Tops Q2 Earnings Estimates
Communication network solution provider, ADTRAN Inc. (ADTN), reported second-quarter 2014 financial results wherein its bottom line surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate while the top line was on par with the same. Strong demand of Broadband Access category has resulted in record revenue growth in international markets.
The company reported quarterly total revenue of $176.1 million, up 8.6% year over year and almost on par with the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $176 million. In the second quarter of 2014, GAAP net income came in at $14.4 million or 26 cents per share compared with $9.9 million or 17 cents per share in the year-ago quarter. However, quarterly adjusted earnings per share of 27 cents beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 25 cents per share.

Quarterly gross margin stood at 49.3%, flat year over year. However, operating income registered a steep rise of 36.9% year over year to $19.3 million. Quarterly operating margin was 11% against 8.7% in the prior-year quarter. The company’s board of directors declared a cash dividend of 9 cents per share for the quarter. The dividend will be paid on Aug 14 to shareholders of record as of Jul 31.
At the end of the second quarter of 2014, ADTRAN generated $13.1 million of cash from operations compared with $2.8 million in second-quarter 2013. The company exited the second quarter of 2014 with cash and marketable securities of $104.8 million as against $164.1 million at the end of fiscal 2013.
