ALOR SETAR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Upon its completion in 2013, the Alor Setar
Haj Complex here will not only enable the Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji) to
improve its haj services and operations, but will also become its strategic
Minister in the Prime Minister''s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom
said the RM86 million complex was located at a very strategic location which was
about one kilometre away from the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport and only 10
kilometres away from the city.
"The complex, which will also comprise a four-star hotel with a three-star
rates, will definitely help generate income for Tabung Haji through the
hospitality and tourism sector.
"The complex will also become a strategic transit location and smoothen the
ground handling of the haj operations for pilgrims from the northern zones,
especially Kedah and Perlis."
He said this to reporters after attending the ground-breaking ceremony of
the complex, officiated by Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu''adzam Shah in
Kepala Batas here today.

Jamil Khir said the project also proved that Tabung Haji had always strived
to improve its haj operation management services.
Meanwhile, Tabung Haji chief executive officer Datuk Ismee Ismail said the
complex, which would be built on a four-hectare site, would have a 210-room
hotel, a convention centre with a sitting capacity for 1,500 people and a
separate swimming pools for men and women.
"The Alor Setar Haj Complex will also manage direct haj flights to Jeddah
and Medina for pilgrims from the northern zones without having to go through KL
International Airport (KLIA)," he said.
As such, he said the complex would also have special areas for pilgrims''
arrivals, registrations, health examinations, luggage inspections, immigration
and briefing sessions.
Apart from Alor Setar, two other Tabung Haji complexes are also being
constructed near KLIA, which is expected to be completed in 2014, and in
Terengganu, which is expected to be fully operational next year.
