KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The National Co-operative Organization of

Malaysia (Angkasa) will offer scholarships for excellent academic students to

pursue their higher education at public higher learning institutions, starting

May this year.

Angkasa president Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ali Baharum said a first batch of 16

students would be offered scholarships.

Mohd Ali said schools with cooperatives in their respective schools can

propose students who achieved excellent results for such scholarship but they

must also have received offers from public institutions.

"The initiative is a way of encouraging students in schools to participate

in cooperatives at their respective schools.

"The schools cooperative known as Gerakan Koperasi Sekolah Malaysia has

attained international recognition from the International Co-operative

Alliance-ICA," he said.

Mohd Ali added that scholarships offered by Angkasa would be different from

scholarships offered by the National Sports Council.
