Application to strike out defamation suit

IPOH: State DAP leaders named in the defamation suit filed by state assembly speaker Datuk R. Ganesan will make an application to the court to strike out the suit.

State DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming said they are yet to receive the summon writ from Ganesan's lawyer and the application to strike out the suit will be the first cause of action after they receive it.

Nga said the defamation suit filed by Ganesan's lawyer at the Ipoh High Court on Wednesday was baseless as none of them (the five leaders named in the suit) had made any defamatory statements against Ganesan.

"When we receive the suit we will look into the claims and proceed with a striking out application and with a defence," he told reporters at a press conference at the DAP state headquarters.

Also present were Tronoh assemblyman V. Sivakumar, Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam and Sungkai assemblyman A. Sivanesan.

On Wednesday, Ganesan through his lawyer filed a defamation suit of RM25 million against Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, state DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming, Sivakumar, Sivasubramaniam and Menglembu assemblyman Lim Pek Har pertaining to the sex video clip involving him.

In his suit, Ganesan claimed for compensation, an injunction, interests and costs.
