KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- Producers, manufacturers, food outlets

and slaughter houses are encouraged to apply online for the Department of

Islamic Development''s (JAKIM) Halal certification.

Minister in Prime Minister''s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom

explained that online applications would speed up the certification process.

National and international applications may be made directly to JAKIM''S

Halal Hub while local certification is handled by the respective State Islamic

Religious Departments or Councils.

Meanwhile, in Petaling Jaya, JAKIM served warning notices to four food

outlets in Subang Jaya and Puchong for using unrecognised halal logos, said the

Department''s Halal Hub assistant director Adam Drahman today.

The offence is punishable by a fine of up to RM5 million for misrepresenting

or deceiving consumers, under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, he added.
