We recently spotlighted Social Innovations Camp Asia, an event in Kuala Lumpur that brought together creative people to tackle important social problems through the use of technology. And in keeping with a similar spirit, Guinness - in cooperation with the folks over at UP Singapore - will be holding a civic hackathon on the weekend of December 8th and 9th.

The goal of the hackthon will be to create solutions to help marginalized women (this includes single mothers and ex-offenders) better support themselves and their families. Guinness will launch its Arthur Guinness Fund in Singapore, which will allocate up to $60,000 to invest in the most viable ideas that emerge from the weekend event.

From what I can see, the hackathon is structured very much like a Startup Weekend event, with groups forming around ideas on Friday night (December 7th), and then getting down to an intense weekend of discussion, development, and pitching.

For those who would like to join the hackathon, participation is free, and you can register over on the UP Singapore website.

The Arthur Guinness Fund was established back in 2009, and is focused on supporting social entrepreneurship around the world.
