LABUAN, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd, Labuan’s largest oil
and gas base, will continue to place emphasis on safety and security aspect, its
chief executive officer Datuk Harris Tan said.
Security aspect would not be taken lightly in view of the high value of
assets and interest of major local and international oil and gas players
operating there, he added.
"That''s why we have auxiliary policemen to safeguard and protect the base,"
he said at the opening of auxiliary police meeting hosted by the company today.
"We have tightened our security level... the size of our base is increasing
and is reaching 160ha and there is a need to increase the number of auxiliary
policemen," he said.
The company has also conveyed to the National Security Division of the Prime
Minister''s Department on the need for the base to be gazetted under the
Protected Areas and Protected Places (Act 1959) to ensure its smooth operation
over the long term.
International players operating at the base include Schlumberger,
Halliburton and Shell.
