ASSOCIATION OFFERS FREE LEGAL AID TO CONSUMERS IN SARAWAK

KUCHING, July 16 (Bernama) -- Consumers in Sarawak can now get free legal

aid for cases concerning consumer interest brought to the High Court.

Advocates Association of Sarawak president Khairil Azmi Mohd Hasbie said the

free service was offered to consumers who won their cases at the Consumer Claims

Tribunal but had the cases brought to the high court by the losing party for

judicial review.

"We encourage lawyers who are our members to take the cases as part of their

corporate social responsibility," he said after the signing of a memorandum of

understanding between the association, Bank Rakyat and the Domestic

Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry to start the free aid service.

Further information on the service can be obtained at the ministry''s

offices in the state.
