Aussie film bears uncanny resemblance to MH370’s disappearance, admits director
Australian film director Alister Grierson admitted that it was a little strange that the plot of his latest film had some similarities to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
The Gold-Coast-based filmmaker told the Daily Mail that while the similarities were mysterious, his action/adventure movie, Deep Water, was vastly different.
"The similarities and timing is interesting and I can see why anecdotally, the two things link up. It is a tricky thing," Grierson told the Daily Mail.
"Deep Water is about an accident which happens on an airplane which goes down in the ocean, and the survivors try to stay alive afterwards.
"It is a fun action/adventure film with thrills, spills and scares as there are villains and sharks," he said.
The Daily Mail reported that Deep Water, Grierson's latest project, was in the early stages of production.
Pre-production of Deep Water began weeks ago at the Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, before MH370 disappeared.
"It will be two years before Deep Water hits the cinemas, which allows plenty of space between the true story of MH370 currently unfolding," Grierson said.
Strangely enough, it is not the first time that life has imitated art when it comes to Grierson's movies.
Grierson is best known for his film, Sanctum, and two weeks before it was released, Australia was hit by disastrous floods.
Sanctum, a big-budget feature, which was executive produced by Canadian Oscar-winner filmmaker James Cameron, was about an underwater cave-diving expedition gone awry.
"It was two weeks away from being released when Queensland and northern New South Wales were hit by devastating floods in 2011," Grierson said.
"The floods came through and destroyed whole areas, with people losing their lives.
"We had this weird situation where we were about to release a film where there is flooding and people drown. It was strange territory."
Flight MH370 was carrying 12 crew members and 227 passengers when it dropped off the radar at 1.20am on March 8.
