BESUT, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Muamalat) is
expanding the Ar-Rahnu Islamic pawnbroking service to all its branches in line
with the bank''s plan to improve customer services next year.
Its chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Majid said currently the Ar-Rahnu service has
been introduced in 10 out of 56 branches nationwide.
He said the move was to help customers, particularly Muslims, and was also
the way forward for the bank as the Islamic finance industry was increasingly
gaining momentum among the people.
Since the bank was established in 1999, it has grown as among the leading
commercial banks in the country, he said.
"We''ve 56 branches, including nine in east coast states -- four in Kelantan,
three in Pahang and two in Terengganu," he told reporters after opening the 56th
branch at Taman D''Lahar, Gong Kepas, Kampung Raja, here today.
In efforts to improve services offered, Dr Munir said Bank Muamalat would
open more branches country-wide, including upgrading old branches, to provide a
"Besides upgrading, old branches will be relocated to strategic, comfortable
and safe areas for customers," he said.
He said the bank management had identified two new branches to be opened in
Terengganu -- Kemaman and the location of the other branch is still being
