Baseball star Yadier Molina starts record label

San Juan, March 9 (IANS/EFE) St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is on his way to becoming an entrepreneur in the music world after starting a record label, Molina Records, soon to launch the first solo disc by Venezuelan rapper Oma 206.

The 30-year-old Puerto Rico native told EFE Friday that his love of music, particularly reggaeton, salsa and vallenato, was what led him to found his own record company.

"I've always liked music. I'm a big fan. And I've always dreamed of helping young people and thank God the company is doing really well," the five-time National League All-Star said.

Molina said that his company started operations last year and since then has built the recording studio in Puerto Rico where Oma 206 recorded several of his numbers over the last few weeks with producer Alex Monserrate.

"For me this is a hobby. For some people it's golf, but for me it's music. I really believe I'll do some great things," said Molina, whose two older brothers, Bengie and Jose, are also catchers with Major League teams.

Giancarlo Santaniello, a.k.a. Oma 206, told EFE that it's "an honour" to be the first artist to record with Molina Records, a company he described as "one that will give people a lot to talk about".
