KUALA LUMPUR (APRIL 28): The Bersih 3.0 “Duduk Bantah” protest here on Saturday has taken an ugly twist with Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) firing tear gas cannisters and deploying chemical laced water cannons to disperse protestors in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, near Dataran Merdeka.
The FRU fired the water cannon as the demonstrators pushed though a barrier at the perimeter of Dataran Merdeka.
Unconfirmed reports have also emerged that the FRU fired tear gas at the crowd near the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) hedquarters along Jalan Raja Laut.
More and more FRU trucks have been sighted approaching Dataran Merdeka, while paramedics have also reportedly arrived at the scene as some people have been injured.
Meanwhile,the FRU has also deployed water cannons and tear gas at the Masji Jamek area
Also, police offcers were seen escorting scores of people away from the square.
At 4.15pm, the FRU fired tear gas around the Petaling Street area where smaller groups of demonsratiors had regrouped.
