Bersih 4.0 in October if electoral roll not cleaned, says Ambiga

Electoral watchdog Bersih has threatened to hold another rally in October if the Election Commission (EC) refuses to clean up the electoral roll that has been a bone of contention with civil groups and the Malaysian opposition.

Bersih 2.0 co-chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan (pic) said today that the EC should explain itself rather than blame other parties for the tainted electoral rolls.

“Bersih 4.0 will be held in October if the EC does not clean up the electoral roll,” Ambiga told reporters after the Bar Council's Post-Election Series seminar in Kuala Lumpur today.

To date, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) has already held three massive rallies in Kuala Lumpur to demand for a free and fair election. “The EC has the tendency to blame the National Registration Department (NRD) over problems that the EC face,” said Ambiga.

“If I were the chairman of EC, I would have presented dozens of police reports when faced with such a problem,” explained Ambiga during the seminar co-organised by the Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee and Human Rights Committee.
