'Black Ops 2' - first multiplayer trailer: guns, gadgets and gameplay

New guns, gadgets, and distinct environments are given a fuller showing in the first multiplayer gameplay trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II

In amongst the carnage there's an opportunity to see a mechanized, ED-209esque robot in the field, confirmation that players can go prone (and do so while diving), a deployable heat ray turret, and a glimpse of the tactical options provided by billowing smoke.

A potentially annoying flying drone is taken down via rocket to the face, new riot shields can be stuck into the ground, shock charge grenades temporarily incapacitate enemies, knife and tomahawk skills are in the mix, and there's a generous helping of reloading animations -- something previous game Modern Warfare 3 got a bit of stick for in comparison to rival Battlefield 3.

Bookending the trailer with a prominent in-game projection of players' weapon and perk choices at the start (complete with shout-outs to the series' YouTube community) and pro-grade match commentary at the end, lends a Running Man or Smash TV gameshow feel, further displaying Call of Duty's intent to become a profitable, mainstream e-sport.

That slice of commentary also confirms a multi-team deathmatch mode for Black Ops II, in contrast to the previous iterations' two team approach.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is due November 13 on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, joining a season of action games that includes entries from Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 6, 007 Legends, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Assassin's Creed III, Halo 4, Hitman: Absolution and Far Cry 3.
