Flickr photo of the day: Shades of blue
According to shadesofblue.facts.co there are roughly 200 shades of the color blue … in the English language and, according to several online surveys, blue is the world’s most popular color. Earth itself is often referred to as the Blue Planet (Uranus and Neptune are lighter shades of blue) and the “blue hour,” that time just before sunrise or just after sunset, is attractive to painters, photographers and filmmakers.
Decorators say blue is calming and psychologists say it promotes creativity. Painting your house or mailbox blue to keep away bad news was an old custom of rural African-Americans living in the southern United States. The light blue shade was called “haint blue,” haint being an evil spirit.
