Glowing ‘alien sea creature’ in Bristol Harbour revealed as TV hoax

Something strange was happening in the waters of Bristol Harbour this week.

What appeared to be a long, glowing sea creature caused some commotion when it was spotted floating near the water's surface. Videos appeared on YouTube. Twitter lit up as bright as the creature with speculations about what it could be.

Could it be a rare sea creature, similar to the crystal jelly, or maybe some kind of art exhibit? Or could it possibly originate from beyond this world?

Well, as it turns out, it was all an elaborate hoax.

As revealed on the blog for UKTV, this was "part of an elaborate marketing stunt by UKTV’s entertainment channel, Watch," specifically for a new television show debuting on December 9th, called The Happening, and is the latest video in the guerrilla campaign that started about four months ago.

The show is dubbed as "an audacious new illusion series featuring master magicians 'Barry and Stuart'," and will feature the duo going around to different towns in the UK and America and convincing the residents that strange phenomena are happening there.

It seems that their campaign to promote the show has been fairly successful in capturing people's attention. I'm not sure how much people will enjoy being pranked for TV, but hopefully if it's all done in good fun, the show will be just as successful.
