The Malaysian government has promised to provide each student with a laptop, provided they retain power after the next general election scheduled to be held on 5 May. This apparently part of a larger blueprint to further enhance the lacking education system in the country.

These low notebooks generally suit the needs of students by ensuring that they are able to get work done without having access to too many distractions. Google's Chromebooks are also cheaper than regular notebooks, which would make them easier to obtain and distribute.

America has been trialling this sort of program in their own schools, with some 2,000 schools using the lightweight system. If the plan goes through, Malaysia will be one of only a handful of countries to adopt the new technology. It will also boost Google's efforts to promote their own operating system as a viable alternative to the existing options.
