IPOH, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The government is confident that RM2.6 billion is
sufficient for 5.2 million eligible heads of households under the Bantuan Rakyat
1Malaysia (BR1M) programme, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni
He said the figure of eligible heads of households was obtained from the
Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and applications will be referred back to Bank
Negara Malaysia (BNM), among others.
"Processing will be quick as it is done online...we hope to distribute the
aid by mid-January next year," he told reporters after launching the BR1M
programme at the 1Malaysia Community Hall in Chemor, here today.
Should the number of eligible applications exceed allocated funds, he said
the government will increase funds to assist households earning below RM3,000
and with many dependents, senior citizens aged over 60 and those registered
under the eKasih programme, he said.
Ahmad Husni, who is also Tambun MP, said the programme aimed to reduce the
burden of heads of households and ineligible applications can be detected
immediately through LHDN records.
Application for the aid starts today until Jan 10, 2012 and enquiries can be
made through the BR1M hotline at 1-800-222-500.
