KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Small and Medium
Entrepreneurs Association (Ikhlas) have called off its plan to stage a protest
in front of Datuk Ambiga Sreenivasan''s house on May 24.
Another group calling itself as ''WargaAMAN'' had also cancelled its plan to
set up a ''thosai'' stall and hold a ''thosai'' making demonstration in front of the
house of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar, on
Sunday.
Ikhlas president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah, when contacted, confirmed that the
''burger protest'' had been called off after the association felt that it had
succeeded in ''sending a message'' to Ambiga who had led the Bersih 3.0 rally on
April 28.
"As a result, there won''t be any subsequent protest. We will not set up a
stall in front of Ambiga''s house," he said.
On May 10, several members of Ikhlas held a ''burger protest'' by distributing
free burgers to members of the public in front of Ambiga''s house after claiming
that they had lost RM200,000 in terms of income following the Bersih 3.0 rally.
WargaAMAN chairman A. Rajaretinam, when contacted by Bernama, said: "Yes,
we will cancel (''thosai'' protest) after taking into consideration the views of
Ambiga and several political leaders that the protest be called off."
