With DC's "Green Lantern" just released a few weeks back, now Marvel has come forward with its latest superhero to conquer the genre once again with Captain America. The film will see Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka. Captain America, in a world that is set during the World War II era as he battles Nazis and specifically Hugo Weaving as the conniving Red Skull. The introduction to Captain America as the first Avenger is quite exciting for comic fans everywhere, as the movie will lead up to the mega superhero ensemble for next year's "The Avengers".

Chris Evans Based on the Marvel Comics character from World War II, Captain America has long been considered one of the most iconic and most patriotic superhero there is. Chris Evans goes from a 98-pound wimp to buff superhero in a matter of moments, but luckily for him, film studios have computers to do the heavy lifting these days. Playing scrawny Army reject Steve Rogers in the film adaptation of the beloved comic book, Evans comes out of an experimental chamber all hopped up on a secret serum that would make him a super soldier. Yes, no stranger to superheroes, Evans played Johnny Storm in the "Fantastic Four" movies and is quite lucky to play another superhero this time around especially since a slew of other actors like Sam Worthington, Chad Michael Murray, Chris Pine, Robert Buckley, Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Garrett Hedlund, Neal Bledsoe, Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillipe was also considered for the role. |

Stellar Cast Never has a film had such a torturous rumour path when it comes to casting announcements regarding the ensemble cast. The number of names associated with this movie is truly staggering. As Captain America, Chris Evans joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving from "The Matrix"). Director Jon Favreau said a younger Howard Stark would appear in the film, played by Dominic Cooper. Hayley Atwell then revealed that Tommy Lee Jones would have a role in the film. By June, Neal McDonough was in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan. Four days later, McDonough confirmed he was taking the part. On the same day, Stanley Tucci ("The Lovely Bones") joined the cast as Dr. Abraham Erskine, the scientist who created the Super Soldier Serum. Samuel L. Jackson ("Pulp Fiction") revealed in an interview that he would reprise his role as Nick Fury in the film. With the list of cast that previously starred in many big movies, surely "Captain America" will have something to stand for? |

War Era setting The film is expected to begin in 1942 during the World War II setting. Apparently the movie is taking a different approach in terms of setting where it is reported that the movie will follow how Steve Rogers become Captain America and then how he will establish himself to present day. This means that about half of the movie would be set during the debacle of World War II creating a superhero setting that is once again explored after "X-Men: First Class" which was also set during the same time. Producer Avi Arad said, "The biggest opportunity with Captain America is as a man 'out of time', coming back today, looking at our world through the eyes of someone who thought the perfect world was small-town United States. Sixty years go by, and who are we today? Are we better?" |

The Avengers Sure "Captain America: The First Avenger" may only be a story that features the conception and rise of Captain America, but we all know that there'll surely be cameos and hints dropping from other Marvel heroes as well like how "Iron Man" and "Thor" did. After all, this is the movie that will give you a taste of what's to come in the ultimate superhero ensemble movie next year. Captain America will be joined by Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow and more in "The Avengers", which will basically follow Earth's mightiest heroes joining forces to fight the bad guys. We can't wait to see Chris Evans call out the famous cry of "Avengers Assemble!" when he's paired up Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Mark Ruffalo. |

The Shield Midway through "Iron Man 2," Tony Stark decides to build a particle accelerator in his basement. Agent Coulson, who works for the superhero-focused spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D., stops by and notices something strange; Captain America's stars and stripes shield. Coulson wants to know how in the world Stark came into possession of the superhero's equipment. Stark seems blissfully aware of its true owner, choosing to use the shield to prop up his homemade accelerator. It's a funny moment for Marvel fans watching but also served as an introduction to Captain America. The most well-known of Cap's shields is a disc shaped object with a five-pointed star design in its centre, within blue, red, and white concentric circles. This shield is composed of a unique alloy of (fictional) vibranium and steel, and is therefore practically indestructible. It is as much an offensive weapon as a defensive one for Captain America. He uses it against his enemies mainly by throwing it at them and can perform mind-bogglingly impossible tricks with it. |
