Christie’s announces exhibition and auction of items belonging to the late silver screen legend, fashion icon and humanitarian
Famed art auction house Christie’s is celebrating a woman who raised the very act of living into a fine art — film star, fashion icon, and humanitarian Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Christie’s has just confirmed the dates for the sale of the collection of jewellery, fashion items and art pieces owned by Taylor, which will be preceded by a landmark series of public exhibitions and special events.
In tribute to Taylor and to her legions of fans worldwide, this exciting exhibition will tour for three months and feature highlights from her expansive collection. Although Christie’s have confirmed the auction dates, more details of the exhibition have yet to see print. All we know is that Malaysia is not on the list — closest would be Hong Kong, with other cities on the tour circuit including Moscow, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva and Paris.
What is confirmed is that the tour will culminate in New York for 10 days, followed by four consecutive days of auctions. For this pivotal event, currently slated for Dec 3 to 16, Christie’s New York will devote the entire gallery space of the Rockefeller Center to the public exhibition and sales, which are expected to draw several thousand visitors each day.
In keeping with Taylor’s life-long devotion to humanitarian causes, Christie’s will channel a portion of the monies generated by exhibition admissions, events and publications related to the sales to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). Founded in 1991, ETAF provides funding to AIDS service organisations throughout the world to assist those living with HIV and AIDS.
