Chef Emeril Lagasse helps build world's tallest pancake stack
Celebrity US chef Emeril Lagasse helped set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s tallest pancake stack in New York Thursday, building a tower that reached a height of nearly three feet.
Lagasse, along with popular US TV handyman Ty Pennington, helped build a stack of flapjacks that stood 34 inches (87 cm) tall as part of a promotional stunt to help kick off the premiere of a new food show on TNT.
“On the Menu” is billed as the first competitive cooking show that will allow TV audiences to taste winning dishes after every episode thanks to partnerships with chain restaurants like Chili’s, Denny’s, California Pizza Kitchen and The Cheesecake Factory.
Participants on the show are home cooks who are challenged to create a new signature dish for restaurants that serve everything from traditional barbecue to fusion and American menus.
The concept is not unlike the Canadian Food Network TV series “Recipe to Riches,” a competitive show that invited Canadian home cooks to create the next grocery store product for Loblaw’s in-store brand, President’s Choice.
Loblaw Companies Ltd. is Canada’s largest food retailer.
Winners saw their original recipes line grocery store shelves across Canada.
“On the Menu” debuts October 3 on TNT in the US.
