England manager Roy Hodgson says Chelsea’s Champions League success bodes well for the national team ahead of Euro 2012.
Frank Lampard, Gary Cahill and Ashley Cole all featured in the west Londoners' penalty shoot-out win over Bayern Munich, whilst suspended captain John Terry watched on from the sidelines.
Hodgson praised the performances of the English trio and expressed his belief that the success of the Stamford Bridge outfit is good for the whole country.
"It's a great success, not only for Chelsea, but for the whole of English football,” he told Sky Sports.
"Let's hope some of the players there last night can take that form into the Euros because if they can play as well as that then that will boost our chances."
Cahill returned from injury to play at the heart of the Chelsea defence and with team-mates Cole and Terry also in England’s 23-man squad for Euro 2012, his chances of starting for the Three Lions seem enhanced.
But, whilst Hodgson refused to say what his favoured partnership is, he acknowledged that the former Bolton man has a great chance of starting this summer.
"It is good to see Gary Cahill, of course. He is a lot younger and has a good future in front of him," he added.
“If he can bed in to the Chelsea team alongside John Terry, let's hope that will help the partnership if they find themselves together with England.
"But I haven't picked the England team yet, so we will have to see if they find themselves together or not."
Hodgson also took the chance to catch up with former England coach Fabio Capello at last night’s Champions League final at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Hodgson, who managed against the former AC Milan and Roma boss during his spell in Italian football with Inter, said they had a useful conversation.
"It's always nice to meet and it was very interesting to hear some of his opinions. He was very helpful, very forthright and very generous with his time," he added.
