NANCHANG (China), June 7 (Bernama)-- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has

called for the integration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western

medicine to cope with emerging new health challenges.

TCM, as a treasure of Chinese civilisation, had contributed to the

prosperity of the Chinese nation and brought impacts to world civilisation, Li

said in a speech read out by Deputy Health Minister Wang Guoqiang at the opening

of the World Cultural Forum-High-level Conference on the Development of

Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture here Thursday.

He called for the continuation of the practice that combines the advantages

of traditional medicine with contemporary medicine so as to promote medical and

health system reform, enhance the people’s health and promote natural,

harmonious and healthy human development.

Meanwhile,the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO)

Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun said in a congratulatory message to the conference

that WHO attached great importance to the functions and impacts of traditional

medicine.

She said WHO would play proactive role in promoting TCM,which is the

treasure of Chinese culture.

More than 300 guests including TCM masters,and scholars from overseas are

attending the two-day forum,to explore the roles of TCM in human civilisation

development,the integration of eastern and western medicine,and innovative

Development of TCM.
