LONDON, July 30 (Bernama) -- After nearly a two-month lay off from
competitive tournaments due to injury, world number two Datuk Lee Chong Wei
started his London Olympics campaign on a winning note by booking a place in the
men''s singles quarterfinals.
Chong Wei beat lanky Finnish player Ville Lang 21-8, 14-21, 21-11 in a Group
A match at the Wembley Arena, here on Monday night.
After easily winning the first set, the Malaysian seemed to have lost focus
in the second, allowing the Finnish player to steal the second set.
The more composed Chong Wei then proved that he''s the world number two and
the tournament top seed by winning the decider.
Their head to head record is 2-0 in favour of the Malaysian.
In their last meeting during the 2011 World Championships, Chong Wei easily
beat Lang 21-10, 21-11.
In another match, Tee Jing Yi beat Italian Agnese Allegrini 21-7, 21-14, in
the women''s singles event.
