It’s city council’s turn to harass Bible Society of Malaysia

The Bible Society of Malaysia is claiming "harassment" after two officers from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) turned up at its premises in Damansara Kim this morning to "check for illegal renovations and extensions".

BSM general-secretary Reverend Simon Wong told The Malaysian Insider that he did not allow the two women officers, who turned up at 9am, into the office.

"The wanted to check our premises for illegal renovations and extensions. We refused them entry as we consider this as harassment from MBPJ.

"The two women said they would report this incident to their superiors," said Wong.

The incident comes less than a week after the BSM was raided by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), which also seized more than 300 Malay and Iban Bibles.

Wong said BSM has been in Damansara Kim since 1986 and that MBPJ had never once checked its premises.

Last week, a Jais team accompanied by two policemen raided the BSM offices without producing a search warrant or authorisation letter.

The raiding party also took BSM chairman Lee Min Choon and office manager Sinclair Wong to the Damansara police station to record their statements.

Both Lee and Sinclair Wong are expected to report to the Jais headquarters in Shah Alam on Friday to assist investigations. – January 7, 2014.
