European football clubs will share 100 million euros ($132m) from profits generated during Euro 2012 and an estimated 150 million euros ($197m) from the 2016 edition, UEFA announced on Thursday.
An agreement was signed during the UEFA Congress here by UEFA chief Michel Platini and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, president of the European Clubs Association (ECA), effectively ending the somewhat tense relationship between the two sides.
"I sometimes had the impression that for you and I it was like before (playing France-Germany)," joked former German international Rummenigge to ex-France legend Platini.
"It's an historic day. With this agreement UEFA clearly recognises the importance of the clubs and their essential contribution to the success of national teams," said Rummenigge, adding that during the 2010 World Cup some 75percent of players were from European clubs.
