MELAKA, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- A coffee shop operator pleaded not guilty at the
Magistrate''s Court here today when charged with preventing a Melaka Historical
City Council (MBMB) enforcement officers from carrying out his duty and injuring
one of them on Jan 26.
The accused, Koh Swee Beng, 49, from Taman Kota Laksamana here, entered the
plea before Magistrate Ida Rahayu Sharif.
The accused is, together with several other friends who are still at large,
alleged to have acted aggressively in preventing five MBMB enforcers from
seizing items at a cybercafe located in Taman Seri Duyong Seksyen 2, Kandang,
here at around 11.30pm that day.
He is also charged with voluntarily causing hurt to MBMB enforcer Mutahir
Abdul Rashid, 41, by punching him at the same place, date and time.
Both charges have been preferred under Section 186 of the Penal Code and the
accused is liable to be jailed up to 20 years or fined RM10,000 or both, if
convicted.
The court set bail at RM4,000 for both the charges and March 6 for
re-mention. C/Insp Muhammad Juhari Haron appeared for the prosecution while the
accused was unrepresented.
