CONSTRUCTION OF KUBOTA POWER STATION IN TAWAU MEETS SPECIFICATIONS - SESB

KOTA KINABALU, May 16 (Bernama) -- Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has

given an assurance that all specifications in the construction of the Kubota

power plant in Tawau will be met.

SESB managing director Abd Razak Sallim said the developer of the project

had also appointed an expert to carry out several impact studies on the power

plant as required.

"The reports indicated minimal impact to the surrounding of the project. On

the issue of the project site, the land had been gazetted for electrical

infrastructure projects," he said in a statement to Bernama here, today.

He said the approval of the development plan for the project had been

obtained in November last year. Prior to this, it was reported that SESB and

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) would ensure that the Kubota power plant at KM 5,

Jalan Timor, worth RM80 million, would be operational in June.

In a separate statement, he said in the development of the Geothermal Power

Plant in Tawau, SESB was an ''off-taker'' of the electrical supply of the power

generation from the plant.

As such, he said, applications for approval of the development plan for the

project was under the jurisdiction of the developer of the project.

The RM419 million project was expected to be completed in 2015, he added.
