TAWAU, July 12 (Bernama) -- Consumers here are unhappy at the increase in

the price of chicken to RM10 a kilogramme from RM8 a kilogramme since last week.

A survey by Bernama at Pasar Tanjung here found consumers generally wanted

the authorities to monitor the situation as it was a burden especially with the

coming of the fasting month and Hari Raya.

Farmer Abd Rajak@Kassim Mohd Ali, 55, said the 20 per cent increase in the

price of chicken was uncalled for and regarded it as an attempt at profiteering.

"Don''t put the squeeze on consumers. Action must be taken for the good

of all including the traders, too," said Abd Rajak to Bernama, here, today.

A chicken trader at the market known only as Asnah, 19, said she was

informed by her supplier that one of the reasons for the hike in chicken prices

was the increase in the price of chicken feed.
