CORONER VISITS LOCATION WHERE BODY OF BAHARUDIN WAS FOUND

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- Coroner Zulkpli Abdullah today visited the

Avenue K building in Jalan Ampang here where taxi driver Baharudin Ahmad was

found dead in a sitting position after allegedly taking part in the illegal

    rally on July 9, 2011.

Zulkpli who is conducting the inquest on Baharudin''s death, arrived at the

building at 4.50pm, accompanied by Deputy Public Prosecutor Kalmizah Saleh, DPP

Ahmad Ishrakh Saad, DPP Mohamed Shah Reza Nor Azman, counsel Ahmad Jufliz Faiza

and counsel Chan Chew Weng who are representing the family of the deceased and a

    number of police personnel.

Earlier, Ahmad Ishraq applied for the coroner to visit the location in order

for the latter to obtain a clearer picture of Baharudin''s situation.

At the location, 10th prosecution witness Silahuddin Salim, 45, who is a

caretaker at the building, described Baharudin''s position as about 152cm from an

iron gate, which was not fully closed at the time of the incident.

During the proceeding, Silahuddin also testified that he was standing at the

side of the iron gate when he saw Baharudin sitting in an ''L'' position, in the

    centre of the building.

    INQUEST-BAHARUDIN 2 (LAST) KUALA LUMPUR

"At that time many people were running and entering Avenue K, and among the

crowd I saw a man sitting stretched out, sweating all over while his eyes were

looking upwards...after that I heard a woman shouting for assistance," he said,

    when replying to Kalmizah.

Silahuddin said he was then on the 3pm to 12am evening shift, and around 4pm

saw many people fleeing towards the building but did not know why they were

    doing so.

He said he had earlier directed the building''s security guards to place the

iron signboard at the front of the building to prevent participants of the

illegal rally from using the area.

According to him there were three iron gates at the building but only two

    were closed fully.

Meanwhile, Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan Battalion 8 deputy head, Insp Mohd

Alamshah Gulam, 30, said he was on duty at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC)

during the illegal rally and no tear gas was fired there as the participants had

cooperated after he issued an order to disperse.

    The inquest continues tomorrow.
