Could HTC introduce mid-range 'Proto' at IFA?

HTC could be gearing up to introduce mid-range smartphone ‘Proto' at consumer electronics fair IFA, according to a report by technology blog The Verge

While HTC has been keeping quiet about any forthcoming releases, The Verge has obtained pictures of the manufacturer's forthcoming handset codenamed ‘Proto'.

The handset is thought to be the newest member of HTC's mid-range One series featuring a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, and 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. These specs suggest the handset will follow on from the One V design, and could function as an international version of the China-only New V Desire (T328w).

Little more, including the retail name, is known of HTC's 'Proto' handset though, as The Verge points out, there is a possibility that the handset will be unveiled at the upcoming IFA in Berlin, where several other major manufacturers -- including Samsung and Sony -- are expected to make big announcements.

IFA is one of the world's biggest consumer electronics fairs and is used as a launchpad for products by several manufacturers; highlights expected this year include the unveiling of Samsung's next-gen smart phone / tablet hybrid -- the Galaxy Note II -- and Sony's high-end mobile device the Xperia SL.
