KOTA KINABALU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The police recorded a total of 745
criminal cases between Jan 1 and yesterday, which was a significant drop
compared to the 1,115 cases recorded during the corresponding period of last
year.
Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Tan Kok Liang said the success showed
a 33.18 per cent drop in the crime index in the city.
"There was also a significant drop in street crimes since 2009. As of
yesterday, there were 78 street crimes this year compared with 198 for the same
period in 2009," he said when approached by reporters at the programme, Royal
Malaysia Police With the Clients, at a shopping complex, here today.
However, Tan said vehicle thefts, particularly motorcycles, were still
worrying.
He cited the people''s negligence in leaving their vehicles unlocked as among
the reasons for the thefts.
