Daniel Wu and Nick Cheung says HK films are male dominated

11 Apr – "That Demon Within" actors, Daniel Wu and Nick Cheung expressed their worries over the male-dominated genre in Hong Kong films lately, and hope that there will be more movies which can utilise the ability of Hong Kong actresses.

As reported on Oriental Daily, Nick, who attended the premiere screening of the new movie on 8 April alongside his co-star Daniel Wu, admitted, "Most of my movies are male driven and sometimes I feel as if it's a dead end for Hong Kong actresses."

He also added that the Hong Kong film industry nowadays are not blooming with varieties as it used to, and that there is a big generation gap among actors, with the last known Hong Kong top stars to be Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue.

Daniel Wu, who is also a movie producer, agrees with the opinion saying that co-productions usually choose mainland actresses thus decreasing the opportunities for Hong Kong actresses.

Meanwhile, the two actors who attended the premiere without their respective spouses stated that they will not let their daughters watch "That Demon Within" due to the violent nature of the movie.

"It's too violent, she [Raven] would have to wait until she is 18 to watch," said Daniel, while Nick shared that his daughter Brittany once said that she would wait until she's 22 to watch his films.
