DAP receives thumbs up to use rocket logo

IT’S a thumbs-up for DAP to use its iconic Rocket logo for the elections on May 5.

Registrar of Society (RoS) late Friday night gave written confirmation allowing DAP to use its own flag.

The party Parliamentary head Lim Kit Siang confirmed the decision earlier this morning via his Twitter:

RoS last nite sent letter 2LGE as DAP SG tt RoS “tidak mempunyai apa-apa halangan untuk menyertai PRU13 dgn menggunakan simbolnya

DAP had earlier said it was willing to use PAS' moon symbol in the general election 2013 in Peninsula Malaysia and the PKR symbol in Peninsular and east Malaysia when its candidates file their nomination papers for the May 5 election campaign trail.

The DAP, PAS and PKR formed Pakatan Rakyat (PR) after the 2008 general election when they unanimously agreed not to contest each other. The pact, however has yet to be formalised and does not have a common logo despite their tight collaboration.

The DAP is contesting in 51 federal and 103 state seats across the country while its allies take the remaining share of the 222 federal and 505 state seats up for contest from today.

The decision on symbols for the election came over 48 hours before nomination day today when the Registrar of Societies (RoS) wrote to the DAP, saying it refused to acknowledge the current leadership due to grouses of irregularities in a party election last December. Eventually, party officials concluded it had no power to authorise its candidates to use its registered symbol at GE13.
