MELAKA, July 12 (Bernama) -- Another suspect, believed to be involved in a

snatch theft incident in Jalan Benteng, Balai Panjang on Saturday that resulted

in the death of woman clerk, was detained by police yesterday.

Melaka deputy CID chief Supt P.R. Gunarajan said the beefy suspect, aged 24,

was detained with another man, aged 21, during a special operation at a budget

hotel in Batu Berendam, here, at 3pm.

"Police found a bag which was thrown into some shrubs behind a hotel in

Tengkera and found the victim''s identity card, driving licence and a Bonuslink

card from information given by the suspect," he told a press conference at the

Melaka police headquarters, here, today.

He said the suspect, who jumped out of the first floor of the budget hotel

in his failed attempt to escape the police, was believed to be riding the

motor-cycle in the incident.

Another suspect, a 17-year-old drop out, was arrested with three men, in

their 20s, during an operation on two homestays in Merlimau and Semabok, on July

9 at 1.30pm.

POLICE-SNATCH THEFT 2 (LAST) MELAKA

He said investigations revealed the group was involved in 25 snatch-theft

cases statewide, adding that two stolen motorcycles, including the one used in

Saturday''s incident, were also seized by police.

In the incident at 8.05am on Saturday, Tang Mui Choo, 35, was the target

of two snatch thieves on a motorcycle.

They caused her to fall and sustain serious

injuries on the head and ribs. She died the next day.

Both the suspects detained were also found positive for Methamphetamine and

were being remanded for seven days from today to help investigation under

Section 302 of the Penal Code.
