DEWAN NEGARA ADJOURNS SINE DIE, PASSES 21 BILLS

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Negara which sat for 10 days

since April 23 adjourned sine die today.

During the course of the sitting, the Dewan passed 21 bills including the

Supplementary Supply Bill (2011) 2012) and Security Offences Bill (Special

Measures) 2012, which replaced the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1960.

Four other bills related to security were passed without any amendments

namely the Penal Code Bill (Amendment) 2012); Criminal Procedure Code

(Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012; Evidence (Amendment) Bill 2012 and Territorial

Sea Bill 2012.

The Dewan also passed the Arbitration Bill 2012 and the Malaysia Institute

of Road Safety Research Bill 2012.

Three bills on finance also received the nod of the Dewan which were the

Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2012; Financial Report (Amendment) Bill 2012 and the

Labuan Companies Bill (Amendment) 2012.

Other bills passed were the Rukun Tetangga Bill 2012; the Malaysia

Volunteers Corps Bill 2012; Jasa Perkasa Persekutuan (Remembrance Allowance)

Bill 2012; Pingat Tentera Udara (Remembrance Allowance) Bill 2012; Universities

and University Colleges (Amendment) Bill 2012; the Private Higher Educational

Institutions (Amendment) Bill 2012; the Educational Institutions (Discipline)

(Amendment) Bill 2012); Capital Markets and Services (Amendment) Bill 2012

and the Printing Presses and Publications (Amendment) Bill 2012).

The sitting today also accepted a motion to withdraw the the Election

Offences (Amendment) Bill) which was passed by the Dewan Rakyat on April 19.

The sitting this time also witnessed the re-appointment of Mohd Khalid Ahmad

as a senator and appointment of Koperasi Gula Perlis chairman Abdul Shukor Mohd

Sultan as a new senator.
