Yvonne Strahovski is heading for darker pastures with her new role of Hannah McKay on the upcoming seventh season of Showtime's "Dexter."
"She is a character with a dark past," Yvonne, who previously starred in NBC's "Chuck," told AccessHollywood.com on the "Dexter" red carpet at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, referring to her new character.
"I think we can safely assume that we'll be delving into something that's a little opposite to what I've been playing previously," she added. "It's something very different. I'm not the enforcer of law, so yeah, it's gonna be dark and mysterious."
Yvonne was known for her "Chuck" role as Sarah Walker, a strong spy, who knew how to fight with the best of the boys. Asked if she'll do some similar butt-kicking in "Dexter," the Australian told Access , it definitely won't be the same.
"I think Sarah was a very specific style of butt-kicking that probably won't be touched on in 'Dexter' as Hannah McKay, but I think maybe a different type of butt-kicking -- a darker type of butt-kicking, perhaps," she hinted. "Although I can neither confirm or deny that."
That's OK, one of Yvonne's bosses - Scott Buck - an executive producer of "Dexter" - explained more about how Hannah fits into the drama.
"Yvonne plays a character named Hannah McKay, who, as a 15-year-old teenager, was part of a crime spree with her much older boyfriend, and since then she has lived sort of a quiet life behind the scenes," he told Access . "But events come about that bring her back to the attention of Miami Metro Police Department."
Yvonne isn't the only new face joining "Dexter" in Season 7. Ray Stevenson ("Thor," "Rome") plays a menacing new figure.
"Ray Stevenson's character is named Isaac... and he plays it like a Ukranian/Russian mob boss," the EP said. "He is brought in because Dexter kills someone who is very important to him and he's gonna come find out what happened."
"Dexter" Season 7 premieres Sunday, September 30 at 9 PM EST on Showtime.
