12 Apr - The movie "Bodyguard", starring award winning actor, Kevin Costner and the first acting debut for the late Whitney Houston first came out in 1992. Though it received some mixed reviews, it certainly was one of the most memorable films of all time that left a long lasting impression on most people, and no one resonates to that sentiment more than the late Princess Diana herself.

Costner admitted during his interview with journalist Anderson Cooper of CNN, that he was keen for the late Princess of Wales to take on the romantic lead for the sequel.

He further admits that the late Princess' interest in making the movie came from her own personal battle, "She let me know that her life might be changing at some point, so she was having her own internal struggles". He further adds, "She wanted me to write it for her. I said, 'I'll tailor it for you if you're interested'. She goes, 'I am interested."

However, when the "Dances With Wolves" actor received the first draft of the script for the "Bodyguard 2" on 31 August 1997, he along with the rest of the world was shocked to learn the news of Princess Diana's death in a horrid car accident.

After Diana's sudden death in the car accident, Costner kept quiet about what could have been her transformation from princess to Hollywood star, but it was a reporter who brought it up recently. "When she died, she was obviously all over the news," Kevin said.

"I knew that that was an interesting story that I had, but I never brought that up and a very good reporter, about a year later, somehow heard something and finally came to me and I said, 'Yeah, that was true."

But to clarify he further added, "Not that she was going to do it, we were just talking about doing it."

"The Bodyguard" was re-released across US cinemas last month to mark the film's 20th anniversary in honour of the star of the film, the late Whitney Houston.

However a remake was said to be in the works, with rumours that billed Rihanna being cast for the role originally played by the late Houston.
