KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- From Saturday, medical practitioners can
apply on line at www.mmc.gov.my for their Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr
Mohd Ismail Merican said today.
He said the online system would also enable the doctors to update their
particulars and pay renewal fees, and reduce backlog.
This year alone about 4,000 new practitioners were expected to register with
the MMC, he said, adding that last year there were about 32,250 medical
practitioners registered with the council encompassing 24,500 fully registered,
7,500 provisionally registered and 250 temporarily registered.
"It is hoped that with the introduction of this system it will completely
eradicate missing application forms which have been a point of contention
amongst practitioners for a long time," he said when launching the APC.Online
Dr Mohd Ismail said that for the initial phase, the online application
system was only for the utilisation by medical practitioners from the private
sector as public sector practitioners were exempted from the application fees.
However, when the corporatisation of the council was completed after the
amendments to the Medical Act, all practitioners, irrespective of their
employment whether in the private or public sector, would have to pay the
prescribed fee for the application and renewal of the APC, he said.
