KUALA LUMPUR: Women must be wary of their handbags because the labels on their purses may result in their becoming snatch theft victims, said Social Care Foundation founder Tan Sri Robert Phang.
He said the public must be educated on necessary safety precautions to avoid becoming prey to criminals.
"But, some women don't like that idea. I've told them not buy expensive handbags.
"Thieves nowadays don't go for Louis Vuitton anymore.
"They say it is very common, and go for Hermes instead.
"Why? Because even if there's nothing valuable inside, they can still sell the handbag.
"In the mall, the handbag is sold for RM30,000. Wouldn't you buy it if it was sold to you for RM600?"he asked reporters yesterday.
Phang, who is also Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation exco member, said women become easy targets because they "never change"and always carry "a lot of money".
"Women are easier to bully and tackle. Women never change. They always like to bring lots of money in their handbags.
"That is why they are attacked. That's the problem.
