Double-decker bus mishap victim forced to climb out of window to save himself – Bernama

A tourist who was travelling in a bus that was involved in an accident at Km70, Kuantan-Segamat Road yesterday was forced to climb out of a broken glass window to save himself.

Recalling the chaotic moments, the man, only known as Karthiksan, 27, said the double-decker bus driver was driving slowly and the condition of the road was good when the mishap took place at 4.30pm.

"Suddenly, the bus went out of control and skidded before descending into a 10-metre deep ravine, causing the bus to roll over several times.

"At that time I realised the glasses of the windows on both sides broke and I thought I was going to die.

"We (passengers) immediately climbed out through the broken glass windows to save ourselves," said the Indian national who works at a computer software company in Singapore

His friend S. Balaji, 29, said he woke up when the bus went out of control before plunging into the ravine.

"Some passengers screamed in fear, and we climbed out of the windows to save ourselves," he said.

A passenger was killed while 39 others including two drivers were injured in the mishap.

The bus, believed to have been driven by a local, was on its way to Singapore from Kuala Terengganu.

The incident was the third involving an express bus in two weeks in the country. – Bernama, April 21, 2014.
