Dwayne Johnson to star in "Journey" sequels

17 Aug – The Rock sure is busy these days. The buff actor now has two more sequels to add onto his endless list of upcoming movies.

Carey and Chad Hayes, who recently earned praises for their screenwriting in "The Conjuring", have been chosen to pen the scripts for two upcoming "Journey to the Center of the Earth" sequels and both movies will once again star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The Hayes brothers recently worked with the actor on "San Andreas".

Johnson debuted in the franchise in the first sequel "Journey 2: the Mysterious Island", taking Brendan Fraser's place as the main lead. It seems that now Johnson is a permanent cast on the franchise. That comes as no surprise seeing that the sequel has managed to rake in USD 241 million more than its predecessor, which made USD 94 million worldwide.

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" is considered a sequel to a Jules Verne novel by the same name. It tells the story of a scientist trying to find the truth about his missing brother. He and his nephew along with their mountain guide discovered a world in the center of the earth.

The movie version later received its own sequel starring Johnson, which was released four years later in 2012. This time the setting is on a mythical island with Johnson acting as the stepfather who is helping his stepson to find his grandfather.

Verne's "From Earth to the Moon" was initially planned to be the second sequel's setting but the Hayes brothers reportedly has something else in mind.

Fans will have to wait and see what "Journey 3" will be bringing to the screens.
