Early risers may be thinner, happier

Bad news for those who love a good lie in: a new study finds that people who get out of bed by 7 a.m., on average, do better in the workplace and have a lower chance of being depressed, stressed and overweight.

"Morning people tend to be healthier and happier as well as having lower body mass indices," researcher Dr. Joerg Huber of Roehampton University in London said in a British Psychological Society conference, according to the UK's Telegraph last week.

In a study of 1,068 adults, evening people were found to get out of bed by 8:54 a.m., on average. On weekends, everyone enjoyed an extra hour under the covers: early risers awoke at 7:47 a.m., compared to 10:09 a.m. for late risers.

Another study in the US found that Americans who habitually stay up later and sleep in later eat more fast food and overall calories and less fruits and vegetables, and have a higher body weight and more difficulty with weight loss than people who have more normal sleep routines.

I'm currently having insomnia so naturally I'd wake up really late like 11am or 12noon. It really feels depressing most of the time and why is it that I haven't gained a pound at all? :( I'm still at 98lbs. and I'm so not happy about it.

from other resources that i've read, it doesn't matter if someone is an early riser or otherwise...you just have to make sure that you get 8 hours of undisturbed sleep same time every day so as not to disrupt your body's biological processes:)

But still, our biological clock determines how our organs function. Studies show that early sleep makes our tired cells rejuvenate at specific hours of the night. Now if our body doesn't do its required tasks at those specific times chances are that we might develop a lot of diseases.

That's interesting to know, though I manifest this attitude of an early riser. 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep keeps me more energetic (helps me with my daily exercises) and having sound mind. Sometimes when I wake-up early morning (say 3am), disturbed about office work, it makes me uneasy and drowsy in the morning specially at work. I weigh about 52lbs., and eat alot, I do not worry about my mobility and health problems. I hope I will continue doing this until I get old enough, and challenge anybody to play Lawn Tennis and cross country marathon. Thanks for the information...Go go go!

People who know me knows I am a lark, not an owl. But I don't impose my work habits on others. My fighting weight has been kept all these years, but this is because I also exercise (brisk walk and light gym exercise) everyday for at least an hour. Fight!
