KOTA KINABALU, May 9 (Bernama) -- An elderly couple narrowly escaped death
when their house was buried in a landslide at Kampung Kiau Taburi, Kota Belud
near here today.

Ramin said in a statement here that the incident involving two houses including
one which was vacant, happened around 4am.
He said team which was dispatched to the scene upon receiving a call at
10.42am, found the couple who had managed to escape unhurt although 70 percent
of their home had been buried by the landslide.
Native Chief representative Tambunan Asang when met by reporters said
communication was cut off for more than 3,000 residents in three villages,
Kampung Kiau Nulu, Kampung Kiau Bersatu and Kampung Kiau Teburi.
Meanwhile, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in a statement said the
landslide which occurred about 60km from Tuaran town also caused power
disruption to more than 30 households.
Its managing director Abd Razak Sallim said supply could not be restored
immediately as the road to the area was rendered inaccessible for heavy
machinery such as lorries and mobile generator sets.
